Terms and Conditions for Hair Regrowth Medications and Treatments
These Terms and Conditions apply to patients prescribed compounded medications for hair regrowth, including but not limited to:
• Minoxidil/Finasteride/Biotin (for Men)
• Minoxidil/Dutasteride/Biotin (for Women Over 45)
• Minoxidil/Spironolactone/Biotin (for Women Under 45)
By accepting a prescription and initiating treatment, you agree to the following terms:
1. Purpose of Treatment
• The prescribed medications are intended to promote hair regrowth and reduce hair loss.
• These medications are compounded formulations, meaning they are custom-prepared for your specific needs.
• You understand that compounded medications are not FDA-approved, but they are prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies following strict quality standards.
2. Medical Assessment and Eligibility
• You confirm that you have provided complete and accurate medical history to your healthcare provider, including all current medications, allergies, and health conditions.
• The prescribing provider has determined that this treatment is appropriate for your condition based on the information you provided.
3. Risks and Side Effects
• You acknowledge that the use of these medications carries potential risks and side effects, including but not limited to:
• Minoxidil: Scalp irritation, temporary shedding, or unwanted hair growth in other areas.
• Finasteride/Dutasteride: Decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, breast tenderness, or potential birth defects if handled during pregnancy.
• Spironolactone: Risk of hyperkalemia, menstrual irregularities, or dizziness.
• Biotin: Possible interference with lab test results.
• You agree to follow all instructions provided by your healthcare provider and notify them immediately if you experience any unusual or severe side effects.
4. Monitoring and Follow-Ups
• You agree to attend follow-up appointments as recommended by your provider to monitor your progress and manage any side effects.
• For treatments involving spironolactone, you acknowledge the importance of periodic blood tests to monitor potassium levels and other relevant parameters.
5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
• You understand that some of these medications, particularly finasteride, dutasteride, and spironolactone, are not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to the risk of harm to the fetus or infant.
• If you are a woman of childbearing age, you confirm that you will use effective contraception to prevent pregnancy while on these medications.
Treatment Risks
1. Minoxidil/Finasteride/Biotin (for Men)
This compounded medication is commonly used to promote hair regrowth in men. However, like all medications, it may carry risks and side effects, including but not limited to:
• Minoxidil:
• Scalp irritation, dryness, or flaking.
• Temporary shedding during the initial weeks of use.
• Rarely, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, or swelling in the hands and feet.
• Finasteride:
• Decreased libido or erectile dysfunction.
• Breast tenderness or enlargement (gynecomastia).
• Depression or mood changes.
• Potential risk of birth defects if handled by pregnant women.
• Biotin:
• Generally well-tolerated, but high doses may interfere with lab test results, including thyroid and cardiac tests.
2. Minoxidil/Dutasteride/Biotin (for Women Over 45)
This formulation is tailored for post-menopausal women to address hair loss. Potential risks and side effects include:
• Minoxidil:
• Scalp irritation, dryness, or flaking.
• Temporary increase in hair shedding when first starting treatment.
• Rarely, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, or unwanted facial hair growth.
• Dutasteride:
• Breast tenderness or enlargement.
• Menstrual irregularities (rare).
