How does Low-Dose Naltrexone work?
The Science.

  • • Naltrexone is an opioid receptor antagonist, blocking these receptors for only a short number of hours.

    • The temporary blockade of the opioid receptors is believed promote an increase in endogenous opioids (naturally occurring in the body) such as endorphins once the effects of the receptor blockade wears off.

  • • Due to the increase in endogenous endorphin production, Low-Dose Naltrexone helps the body decrease the production of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines while simultaneously increasing the production of Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines.

    • LDN has also been shown to modulate the function of T Cells, Microglia and other cells within the body's immune system.

  • The use of LDN may suppress overactive Glial Cells within the nervous system, which are related to chronic inflammation and nerve pain.

  • Low-Dose Naltrexone inhibits Toll-like Receptors such as TLR4s, which play a role in Immune Response as well as Inflammation. This observed behavior has been linked to LDN's ability to modulate Immune Response as well as playing a role in the reduction of Inflammation.

Potential Benefits of Treatment

  • LDN may help reduce cravings and overall food intake by modulating opioid receptors and reducing the brain’s response to food-related pleasure signals.

  • It may enhance metabolic function by reducing chronic inflammation, which is often linked to metabolic disorders and weight gain.

  • LDN has been shown to lower inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity, helping the body process glucose more efficiently and reducing fat storage.

  • Chronic inflammation can contribute to obesity. LDN’s anti-inflammatory effects may help counteract weight gain linked to autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.

  • Since poor sleep is linked to weight gain, LDN’s potential to regulate sleep patterns can indirectly support weight loss efforts.
